We spend so much time thinking about what our children consume—books, media, influences.

But I’ve been asking myself more honestly lately:

What am I consuming?

The tone of my voice, the way I respond under pressure, the atmosphere I create… none of that comes out of nowhere. It’s shaped, slowly and quietly, by what I take in each day.

And as a mother, I’m realizing that my own faith formation can’t be an afterthought or something I’ll return to “when things settle down.” It has to happen in the middle of my vocation.

These books have been part of that formation for me:

📖Introduction to the Devout Life has reminded me that holiness isn’t found in escaping my state in life, but in the middle of it.

📖Story of a Soul is teaching me to embrace the small way, where hidden sacrifices, small acts of love, and quiet patience are not insignificant, but everything.

📖Roses Among Thorns (this one has been such a gentle companion) keeps drawing my attention back to the presence of God in the midst of difficulty. Grace is not absent from the hard places, but often most present there.

📖Searching for and Maintaining Peace has been the one I return to most. A steady reminder that interior peace isn’t optional. I can’t give what I don’t have.

None of this made me a perfect mother.

But it is, slowly, making me more aware.

And maybe that’s what faith formation looks like in this season…not more noise, not more information,
but deeper formation in what is true, good, and lasting.

Moms, what book would you add?
