Prison doesn’t always look like concrete walls and iron bars. Joseph was imprisoned. So was Jeremiah. Daniel. Peter. Paul. Even John the Baptist waited behind locked doors. And yet, God was present there. 

There are many forms of shackles: addiction, shame, fear, doubt, sin. Some prisons are visible; others are carried quietly in the heart.

The Work of Mercy, “Visit the Prisoner,” calls us to show up and to remember the forgotten, to encourage the captive, to pray for the bound, and to walk with those longing for freedom.

Here are a few practical ways to live this mercy. 
May we be people who believe that no one is beyond the reach of God’s love.
